Tehran police have once again started a campaign of confiscating satellite dishes from people’s homes. The Etemad daily reported on Thursday that some people have described officers arriving at residential buildings with warrants to enter and confiscate satellite dishes.
The campaign started in recent days and is reportedly being more seriously pursued in the northern, more affluent part of the city.
The use of satellite equipment in Iran is considered an offence; however, 70 percent of the people reportedly use this technology and watch satellite programming.
Earlier, Ayatollah Vahid Khorasani, a senior member of the clergy, had spoken in favour of satellite services, saying it is possible to make good use of them.
