The Iranian Teachers Association has called on President Hassan Rohani to facilitate the special ceremonies for World Teachers’ Day on October 5
.
In a letter addressed to the president, the association reports how the government has discouraged activities on World Teachers’ Day in recent years.
The government has discouraged any form of public assembly marked by independent organizations such the Iranian Teachers Association.
Members of that group have been the target of government persecution in the past years, and recently the Secretary General of the association, Alireza Hashemi, was sentenced to five years in jail by the Revolutionary Court.
