On the occasion of President Hassan Rohani’s trip to New York, Gohar Eshghi, the mother of Sattar Beheshti, the jailed blogger who died while in custody, has written to the UN Secretary General to urge the Iranian president to push for a fair investigation of her son’s case
.
Saham News reports that the letter indicates the family has been harassed by officials following the death of their son because of the family’s attempt to pursue the matter through legal channels.
The 32-year-old Beheshti was arrested by the Cyber Police for “acting against national security”, and coroner investigations as well as reports from his cellmates confirmed that he was subjected to beatings during his interrogations.
Eshghi claims that her family is now being subjected to harassment for pursuing the matter, and they are now appealing to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to convince the Iranian president to take up their cause.
