Tehran’s Prosecutor General has been warned once more about the declining health of jailed blogger Hossein Ronaghi Maleki, who has been on a hunger strike since August 9
.
In a letter signed by 41 political prisoners in Evin Prison, Abbas Jafari Dowlatabadi is alerted to the critical health condition of Ronaghi Maleki and urged to make an effort to grant him sick leave.
Ronaghi Maleki is on hunger strike to protest the authorities’ refusal to grant him medical leave necessary for treatment. The letter published on Kaleme website reports that since his arrest in 2009, Ronaghi Maleki is suffering from kidney, bladder, stomach and heart complications and is now reaching a “critical stage.”
The signatories urge the prosecutor to transfer him to the hospital before “the situation becomes irreparable.”
Hossein Ronaghi Maleki was arrested after the election protests of 2009 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his media activities. His mother, Zoleikha Mousavi, has also begun a hunger strike to echo her son’s protest in jail.
