The lawyer for Iranian artist and children’s rights activist Atena Farghdani reports that his client, who faced three charges, has been sentenced to 12 years and nine months in prison by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran.

The Campaign for Human Rights in Iran reports that Mohammad Moghimi expressed disappointment over the sentence, which was issued on Monday June 1.
He added that there is a 20-day window to appeal the decision, and he hopes an appeals court will overturn it.

Farghdani was charged with “assembly and collusion against national security, propaganda activities against the regime and insulting the leader, the president and members of Parliament and insulting Revolutionary Guards officials in prison Ward 2A during interrogations”.

Farghdani was brought to trial before Judge Salvati on May 19, after five months in Gharachak and Evin Prisons.
