Hojjatoleslam Javad Soleymani, the Bafgh Friday Mass Imam, delayed the Friday Mass on August 29 for over half an hour as a “sign of solidarity with the people and workers of Bafgh.”
Bafgh Emrooz reports that Soleymani called for the release of detained workers and declared that a number of experts should be enlisted to look into the workers’ demands and resolve the dispute.
Five thousand workers from the Bafgh Iron Ore Mine have been on strike for more than 12 days to protest attempts to privatize the mine, and nine of them have been arrested during protests.
Hojjatoleslam Soleymani stressed: “We need job security in Bafgh and guarantees that the promises made by the management will be kept.”
