On August 6, more than 40 workers and employees at Larestan Communication Company took their protests to the governor’s offices.
The workers were protesting changes in their contracts from full time to part time. The new contracts are now only for 15 days per month. The workers are being asked to work only for four hours a day with no contracts and receive 100 dollars a month. The official minimum wage this year is set around 195 US dollars.
Mohammad Hassan Ghavami, talking to Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA) about the workers’ grievances has mentioned that some of the workers have between 5 to 26 years working experience with the company. Ghavami, further has mentioned that workers are threatened to be laid off not accepting the terms set forth.
According to this labor activist, the management in threatening and reducing the wages is after replacing the workers with cheaper labor.
