Request for retrial rejected, Gholamreza Khosravi in danger of execution Again

Gholamreza Kohsravi Savadjani, political prisoner sentenced to death is in imminent danger of execution after his lawyer’s request for a retrial was rejected by branch 31 of Iran’s Supreme Court on December 15, 2012

.Shima Ghousheh, Khosravi’s lawyer sent the request for retrial to the Supreme Court on November 14, 2012. The request was based on Article 272 of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Criminal Code of Procedure for Public and Revolutionary Courts, which states: “Amendment of judgment regarding a court’s definite sentences can be restored regardless of whether the sentence was implemented…”Ghousheh’s request was referred to branch 31 of the Supreme Court, the same branch that confirmed Khosravi’s death sentence. This move is considered illegal because, according to the laws in Iran, the request was supposed to be referred to a different, same level branch in the Supreme Court.
