Wave of repression and mass arrests in Khuzestan as political prisoner dies under torture

zendani--3.jpgAlireza Ghobaishavy, a political prisoner, 37, an Arab compatriot in Ahwaz, died under torture by Iranian regime’s hangmen, on August 7.

Prior to this, Ghayban Abidavy of Hamidieh, Mohamad Chaldavy of Ahwaz, Reza Moghamsy of Dezful, Mohammad Kabi of Shush and Nasser Alboushoo of Ahwaz were killed under torture by hangmen of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

A. Ghobaishavy was arrested due to his friendship with a number of political prisoners who were sentenced to death last month. five political prisoners in Ahwaz, namely engineer Mohammad Ali Amvari,engineer Hadi Rashedi, Hashem Shabani, a teacher and MA student in Political Science, and two brothers named Jaber and Mokhtar Alboshokeh were charged with “Moharebeh” (Enmity with God) and sentenced to death. The death sentences of these prisoners were communicated to them on July 8.
In another inhuman act, the mullahs’ regime, executed four other Arab political prisoners in Ahwaz on June 18, including three brothers, Abdul-Rahman, Abbas, and Jamshid Heidari and another prisoner, Ali Sharifi. These prisoners were all arrested during April 2011 protests in Ahwaz.
Following this wave of repression, about 20 Sunni people were arrested in the Khuzestan province, on August 6.
Iranian Resistance calls on international authorities and human rights organizations, particularly UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran and rapporteurs on arbitrary arrests, torture and execution to take urgent and binding action to save the lives of six political prisoners especially in Khuzestan province.
