Iran to let political filmmaker attend Hamburg festival

The Hamburg Film Festival has announced that Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof has been
granted permission by the Iranian authorities to travel to Germany and take part in the festival
.
The German News Agency reports that Mohammad Rasoulof’s film “Manuscripts Don’t Burn” will be screened on Tuesday October 1 in Hamburg.
The film, according to the festival director, deals with living under control, intimidation and torture and has been nominated in the Political Film category of the Hamburg Film Festival.
Mohammad Rasoulof was arrested together with prominent Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi in the aftermath of the controversial Iranian election of 2009. He was initially sentenced to six years in jail, which was later reduced to one year.
Rasoulof’s passport was confiscated after his film “Goodbye” was screened at the 64th Cannes Film Festival in 2011.
