European Parliament condemns Iran’s violation of minorities’ rights

c_250_150_16777215_00___images_stories_news_640x392_81603_2208111.jpgThe European Parliament has condemned Iran’s “current disrespect of minority rights” and urged the authorities in Tehran to allow minorities “to exercise all rights granted by the Iranian Constitution and international law.Following a recent report by Amnesty International condemning the pending execution of five members of Iran’s Ahwazi Arab minority, the EU parliament called on Iran to eliminate “all forms of discrimination based on religious or ethnic grounds or against persons belonging to minorities, such as Arabs, Bahaí’is, Azeri, Baluchi, Kurds and Turkmen.”

Daughter: Iran dissident gets 13 years in prison

c_250_150_16777215_00___images_stories_news_test1.jpgBoston-A prominent Iranian human rights lawyer has been sentenced to 13 years in prison by a Tehran revolutionary court, his daughter said Tuesday.Maede Soltani, who lives in Germany, said her family was officially notified Monday of last week’s ruling, which came during the appeals process.Her father, Abdolfattah Soltani, co-founded a human rights group with Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi. He was arrested last year.A court in March initially sentenced the 58-year-old to 18 years in prison on various charges, including co-founding the Center for Human Rights Defenders, spreading anti-government propaganda and endangering national security.

Iran Arab prisoners at risk of execution, Amnesty warns

c_250_150_16777215_00___images_stories_news_nuse-153x200.jpgAmnesty International has warned against the imminent execution of five members of Iran‘s Ahwazi Arab minority convicted of “enmity against God”.Abd al-Rahman Heidari, Taha Heidari, Jamshid Heidari along with Mansour Heidari and Amir Muawi were sentenced to death in April 2011 on charge of killing a law enforcement official. Three of the men are brothers.Amnesty says the men, who come from Iran’s southern province of Khuzestan, were all tried “unfairly” and moved to an unknown location at the weekend, prompting fears that they may face imminent execution.

However, a security court created a stir recently by banning foreign travel for jailed human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh’s husband and their 13-year-old daughter, Mehraveh Khandan. Nasrin Stoudeh has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

ax.jpgIran Human Rights: Two prisoners were hanged in the prison of Yasooj (western Iran) reported the local mediaQuoting the judiciary in the Boyer-Ahmad province, the Iranian state broadcasting reported that two prisoners were hanged in the prison of Yasooj convicted of 2380 grams of heroin and 1957 grams of crack respectively. None of the prisoners were identified by name.

Five political prisoners in Ahwaz including three brothers are in death row

They include three brothers, Abdul-Rahman, Taha and Jamshid Heidari, as well as their cousin Mansour Heidari and another prisoner Amir Osameh.They were transferred from general ward to solitaryconfinement of Karoon prison in Ahwaz on Saturday June9.Death sentence for these prisoners, who were arrested in the protests in Ahwaz in April 2011, was confirmed by The mullahs’ Supreme Court in March 2012.

6 Prisoners Transferred to Intelligence Ward

c_250_150_16777215_00___images_stories_Iranian_Prisoners3.jpgOn the third anniversary of the disputed 2009 Iranian presidential election, six political prisoners have been transferred to the Intelligence Ministry’s Ward 209 at Evin Prison. Sources told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that they are concerned about the way the intelligence forces may treat these prisoners.Yesterday, at least 50 prisoners of conscience in Evin Prison refused to appear at the visitation hall in protest to the treatment of prisoners at the prison. Subsequently, Javad Alikhani, Bahman Ahmadi Amouee, Saeed Matinpour, Arash Saghar, Farshad Ghorbanpour and Saeed Jalalifar were all transferred to Ward 209. Since they are all their finalized prison terms, this transfer is considered illegal.
